Ecuador supports Patricio Pazmiño to be judge of the IA Court HR
The votes of the countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC for its Spanish acronym) and the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), of which Ecuador is part, could be the definitives for that Patricio Pazmiño be elected judge of the Interamerican Court of Human Rights (IA Court HR) in the selection process conducted by the Organization of American States (OAS) and which would conclude in June.
According to the Ecuadorian Chancellery, the State promotes this postulation “with the conviction that the role of the IA Court HR is of vital importance for the protection and monitoring of human rights” and that “the presence of Pazmiño, by his experience and training, will contribute to strengthen the Interamerican System of Human Rights (ISHR).”
But the president of the IA Court HR and professor Hernán Salgado, questions the postulation of Pazmiño because, at his discretion, “he does not have an adequate professional profile” that puts him at the level of other applicants.
