As China struggles with shrimp production, Thailand is thriving and Ecuador intervening to take advantage of the gaps in the Chinese demand.
According to a report published by the Chamber of Aquaculture with information of Intrafish, China has a large middle class that is growing every year and consumers prefer larger sizes of shrimp, said Sandro Coglitore, CEO of Omarsa (Ecuador) in the Seafood Global Market 2016.
Chinese farmers are producing shrimp sized 8-10 grams and “are not able to get enough large shrimp,” Coglitore added.
