Ecuador will answer to the CAN about resolution 116
In the coming days Ecuador will present to the General Secretariat of the Andean Community (CAN for its Spanish acronym) its response to Resolution 1716, which ratifies the request to terminate Resolution 116 of the Committee of Foreign Trade (Comex).
On August 18, the CAN forwarded Resolution 1716, which stated that Ecuador restricts trade in the Andean region through Resolution 116, issued in late 2013 and which states imports controls. For this last reason, the CAN requested a response to Ecuador on the lifting of the measure.
The Regime also analyzes if it notifies to the CAN Resolution 116 as if it was a technical regulation. “We must see what is done. There is a number of options that have raised the Secretariat to resolve the impasse. If that is a valid option that will solve the situation, but that will not harm the interests of the country (…) it would be worth to analyze it,” said Foreign Trade Minister Francisco Rivadeneira.
