Ecuadorian shrimp in pursuit of the third place
If the calculations do not fail, Ecuador will become in 2015 the third largest supplier of shrimp in the world, climbing two places in the world ranking.
In the last Aquaculture Congress held in October in Guayaquil, Fernando Garcia, of Epicore BioNetworks- US, projected for this year 321,000 metric tons of production, which would place Ecuador only below China and Indonesia, surpassing India and Vietnam.
Thus, the domestic shrimp would mean 11.4% of world production and 53% of American production. Since 2007 the country has not stopped growing. It went from 124,153 tons that year to 277,749 tons in 2014, thanks to the development of improved feeding systems.
