Ecuadorians prefer to buy in Colombia

The devaluation of the Colombian peso attracts Ecuadorians to buy in the neighboring country. Especially in Ipiales, located on the border with Ecuador.
During the last holiday in Ecuador, petty trade, restaurants, hotels and taxis in Ipiales reported sales of 1,300 million Colombian pesos a day (about $ 419,354, according to the exchange rate at 3,100 pesos), which implies that Ecuadorian spent about $ 1.6 million in four days, according to the Chamber of Commerce of Ipiales.
Considering that this was the number of dollars coming out of Ecuador, per week, this would mean that in four months $ 26.8 million dollars swelled the Colombian coffers, but only by sales made in Ipiales.
In contrast, the Minister of Foreign Trade of Ecuador, Diego Aulestia, in previous statements said that between March and June this year, Ecuadorian imports, that pay surcharges, decreased by $ 874 million.
