EcuRed: The world, according to a Cuban encyclopedia
Posted On 18 Dec 2010
The Cuban government launched EcuRed, a website inspired by the American online encyclopedia Wikipedia, and with an exclusively content connected with the Castro brothers’ revolution.
The site, which for now has 19,482 documents, including reference articles, biographies and essays, is born, as noted by the portal itself, “To create and disseminate knowledge with everyone and for everyone from Cuba and the world.”
Like Wikipedia, users can subscribe and contribute content with prior approval of the directors, and work on some of the 447 “pages to improve.”
You can enter the encyclopedia from anywhere in the world, but in the island just over 1.5 million Cubans can visit it, of a total population of 11.2 million.
