The President of the Republic, Daniel Noboa, appointed Eduardo Peña Hurtado as his delegate to preside over the Board of Directors of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS). This was announced this Thursday, November 30, 2023.

Thus he will formally replace Alfredo Ortega, who was appointed by former President Guillermo Lasso in June 2022 after the resignation of Francisco Cepeda due to alleged governance difficulties of the Board of Directors.
Peña is a businessman and communicator from Guayaquil . He is currently general manager of the Seguros Cóndor company and CEO of Unicornio SA. He was president of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce from June 2010 to June 2014, he worked as director at Gamavision (2003 – 2008), at Editorial Uminasa (2001 – 2008) and at Cablevision SA (1991-2008).
In addition, he has a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) awarded by the Central American Institute of Business Administration.
