El Oro concentrates 41% of farms

Banana production is the most significant activity in the province of El Oro, it represents 30% of the local economy movement. The province has the largest number of farms nationwide, with 2 375 of the 5 737 registered by the Undersecretariat of Commercialization of the Ministry of Agriculture, that is, 41.39%. Most of these properties are in the hands of small and medium producers.

For El Oro farmers, banana cultivation has been favored by the excellent climatic and ecological conditions of the western plain of the border province. The main areas of cultivation are in the Machala, Pasaje, Santa Rosa, Arenillas and El Guabo counties. (I)
