El Universo hearing to be resumed in 3 weeks

The Second Criminal Chamber of the National Court of Justice decided to resume in three weeks the appeal hearing to review the sentence against EL UNIVERSO Newspaper.

Yesterday, the hearing was suspended due to the absence of Judge Enrique Pacheco, who was excused due to illness. His medical report specified that the judge suffers from high blood pressure. The medical report also added that the judge was suffering herpes.

At that time one of the two Criminal Chambers of the renewed National Court, which will take office tomorrow, will know the appeal brought by the defense of the media, in the lawsuit filed by President Rafael Correa for alleged libel.
