Environmentalists complain for the retaining of its ‘Climate Caravan’
The Ecuadorian environmental group ‘Yasunidos’ reported yesterday the retention of the ‘Climate Caravan’ vehicle, in which a group traveled to the People’s Summit that will be held in Lima.
Yasunidos said in a statement that the vehicle had been “illegally” detained for “alleged breaches by using a motor vehicle for profit-seeking.”
The Interior Minister, Jose Serrano, told the online newspaper Ecuador inmediato, that such action was to comply with the law. “That bus has been retained because it violated its temporary admission, it was used for transporting passengers and not for tourism purposes,” the authority said.
According to the activists, on the way from Quito to Guayaquil and Cuenca, the caravan was detained four times by various security forces, “claiming different routine inspections.”
Yasunidos described as “despicable, contradictory and absurd” the arguments that were given to justify the retention of the vehicle.
