European Union and Ukraine signs partnership agreement
Heads of State and Government of the European Union (EU), signed today with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatseniuk, the political chapters of the partnership agreement that were offered to the previous Kiev government and whose rejection triggered protests in November.
“The signing of the political part of the EU-Ukraine agreement symbolizes the importance we give to relationships and move forward,” said President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy.
This political support to Ukraine is added to the economic aid of $1,000 million euros the European Commission (EC) proposed last Wednesday, and it will consist on medium-term loans intended to help Ukraine to emerge from the deep economic and financial crisis it is facing.
European leaders pretend, thus, to send a signal to Moscow, which has announced today the official incorporation of Crimea and the Sevastopol port to the Russian Federation.
