Foreign Minister of Ecuador says “we are not desperate for a credit”
Guillaume Long, Foreign Minister of Ecuador, said this morning that the country is not desperate to get a loan from international agencies to address the economic crisis and the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that affected two provinces on 16 April.
However, he said that borrowing to materialize viable projects is positive, but it is important to know and analyze if the conditioning of organisms are worthy, and if the interest rate is appropriate.
Possibilities of credit from all sources are being explored; however, we must analyze that it does not interfere with the National Development Plan, or these requirements impoverish citizens, he said.
Regarding an alleged credit reques to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he said that they may resort to any development banks, “as long as there are no constraints (…), we have no problem, what we can not accept is that the IMF tells us we have to reduce the base salary in half or something like that,” he said the Ecuavisa newscast.
