Foreign Ministry responds to complaints of Cubans who want a visa
The Foreign Ministry responded to complaints of discrimination made by a group of Cuban illegal immigrants that demand the Government to regularize their status.
On Sunday, dozens of them gathered in La Conception park, in the north of Quito, to demand national authorities to facilitate the procedures for obtaining visas of residence and work in the country, to recognize university degrees in order to have opportunities in the professional field and the humanitarian guarantees to travel to the US border, which would enable them to benefit from to the Cuban Adjustment Act.
With these issues on the agenda, the coordinator of the Cuban National Alliance in Ecuador, Rolando Gallardo, requested a meeting with the authorities.
The Foreign Ministry answered them yesterday, through a newsletter, that between 2012 and 2016 26,936 nonimmigrant visas (temporary residents) and 16,738 immigrant visas (permanent residents) have been granted to Cuban citizens.
