Foreign NGOs in Ecuador are Suspended
After reviewing agreements and analysis of their work in Ecuador, the Technical Secretariat of International Cooperation (SETECI for its Spanish acronym) decided to initiate a technical review of the activities from around 26 nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) abroad.
So far, this measure has affected at least 26 institutions, nine of them from the United States. The government argued that this is because these NGOs did not fulfill its mission and believed that operated in favor of foreign interests.
An official bulletin detailing SETECI other 16 NGOs must obtain in the next 15 days their permission to stay and said that if these organizations do not meet the requirements, they shall terminate their activities in the country.
Among the entities that are not receiving the renewal are the ones from Italy (3) Spain (3) U (2) Argentina (1), Colombia (1), Philippines (1) Singapore (1) Danish (1) Belgium (1), Puerto Rico (1) Germany (1).
