Foreign Trade analyzes 1 243 imported products

Ecuadornews:

Eliminating safeguards will increase the volume of imports, so the Regime must be “very careful” in relation to Ecuadorian purchases in order to protect dollarization, said yesterday, June 14, 2017, Foreign Trade Minister Pablo Campana. The official made these statements at the end of his appearance in the Committee on International Relations of the National Assembly. He went there to present the advances in the agreements with Belarus, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Campana explained that the Ministry of Foreign Trade is holding technical meetings where 1 243 subheadings are being analyzed.

The official did not detail the scope of this process, but indicated that of these items, 400 were previously taxed with safeguards.

“We are always going to work for the country´s benefit and if at any moment we have to analyze and we have the final results of the technical sheets of these headings, we will see what is the best,” he said.

In any case, the Minister emphasized that no future tariff adjustment will apply to raw materials or capital goods, due to the inflationary effects that could be generated. (I)
