Former Ambassador reflects on ‘lessons’ for Ecuador

Posted On 06 Jan 2016

Former Ambassador of Ecuador to Venezuela, Francisco Huerta, assured that the political present in Caracas should leave several “lessons” for our country.

One of them is the need for a more prominent role of citizens.

“We have become citizens with an ID card,” said the man who was a diplomat in Venezuela between 1988 and 1992.

Huerta said that a “greater civility” will forge a unit as that of that country.

He said that this is also necessary in Ecuador, but that takes time to achieve.

In Venezuela, the unity began to be built in 2006 and only last year a majority in the Assembly won.

Moreover, Huerta said that another lesson is that citizens and groups should maintain a “permanent political activity.”

He clarified that this not only means to demonstrate in the streets, but “to denounce” those in power and “demand” rights.

Finally, he considers that people should observe when some elected regimes in democracy then “deny” certain instruments of it.
