Former Assemblyman Fernando Bala retrieves freedom by new Criminal Code

On the morning of August 26, the Guayas Judge of Criminal Guarantees, Fabiola García, granted freedom to Former Assemblyman of the Sociedad Patriótica Party Fernando Balda, who was serving a sentence of two years imprisonment for the offense of slanderous serious injury. His Lawyer Freddy Pauta requested the release based on the new Organic Integral Criminal Code (COIP for its Spanish acronym), in whose legal body there is no figure by which Balda was sentenced.
Balda was serving his sentence in the Guayas Regional Rehabilitation Center, north of Guayaquil.
Former Assemblyman Lawyers plan to convene a press conference in Guayaquil, whose date and time are not yet defined.
