A former aide of British Prime Minister David Cameron, Andy Coulson, was sentenced this Friday to 18 months in prison for illegal wiretapping that led to the closure of the `News of the World´ tabloid.
Coulson, former chief editor of the magazine of the mogul Rupert Murdoch, was convicted in late June of wiretapping, after an eight-month trial in a London court.
“I was aware” of espionage, and “encouraged it when he had to have put an end to this practice,” said Judge John Saunders when warranting a conviction.
Other two senior managers of News of the World, the former editor-in-chief Greg Miskiw and great the reporter Neville Thurlbeck, were each one sentenced to six months in jail.
