Former Judges Madeleine Pinoargote, Josué Sánchez, Richard Proaño, among others, denounced yesterday that about 40 judges would have been “illegitimately dismissed” by the Judicial Council.
Proaño said he was removed from office for issuing judgments against people close to former officials. “They dismissed me for ruling against Ricardo Rivera, Uncle of Vice President Jorge Glas, in a trial where I established an alimony of $ 4,000. I did not give in to pressure, and that’s why I was fired,” he said.
The former magistrate said that Rivera’s lawyer, whose name he did not mention, offered him “$ 20,000 to establish a $ 600 pension.”
Pinoargote, on the other hand, stated that two years ago she was dismissed for filing a nullity order for irregularities in the Global Funds case. “Wilson N., Abelardo A., Pablo C. and two women I do not know came to my office, threatened to put me in prison if I did not excuse myself.”
According to Pinoargote, supposedly there were personal interests of the former prosecutor general Galo Chiriboga. “He invented the crime of continuous prevarication,” said the former judge, who requested “protective measures to be able to submit all the evidence” she claims to have.
Hernán Ulloa, a lawyer for the former judges, announced that they would start criminal actions for alleged influence peddling, illicit enrichment, bribery, concussion and organized crime. (I)
