“It continues attracting travelers with the promise of encounters with playful sea lions and flashy blue-footed boobies” quotes the magazine. Nathan Lump, editor of the magazine, said that new travel options for visitors make it more accessible and attractive.

This designation is added to other awards, among them, The Best Island of the World by Travel + Leisure, Mexico and Latin America series, for four years; Green Leader Destination of South America 2012, by World Travel Awards Caribbean & The Americas Edition; Dream cruise destination (March 2014), by The Experiential Travel Awards, USA ; and Best place for wildlife of the planet in 2015 by readers of the USA Today newspaper.
