Government expects to make 17 changes to the constitution
Changes in the judiciary, “form” corrections and the figure of the reelection of authorities by popular election are among the changes that the Legal Secretariat of the Presidency would be developing through a constitutional amendments draft.
Yesterday at a local media, Alexis Mera, Legal Secretary of the presidency, confirmed that there is a proposal with at least 17 changes to the Constitution.
When asked about it, Mera said that would include at least two of the changes mentioned by President Rafael Correa.
Regarding the reelection, he expressed that his personal stance was establishing it passing a period. For the democratic principle of alternability, he said he does not agree with indefinite reelection.
The official did not say when the project would be ready, nor detailed all points to be included.
