Government invests in mine dismantlement

With an investment of nearly $ 21 million, the Ecuadorian government provides to dismantle 15.600 antipersonnel landmines in areas near its border with Peru, which remain as “footprints” of the war between the two countries 18 years ago.
“We’re talking about $ 22 million, which would cost to complete the demining process in the border area,” said Defense Minister, Maria Fernanda Espinosa.
Ecuador and Peru have a commitment to turn off the artifacts entirety by then year of 2017. So far, about 6000 mines have been dismantled.
