Government patented the phrases “30s”, “30-S” and “Prohibido Olvidar”
The phrases 30S, 30-S and Forbidden to Forget (Prohibido Olvidar) were established by the Ecuadorian government as trademarks pending after eight months.
This request was initiated by the Secretary of Public Administration of the President, Vinicio Alvarado, on September 16th 2011. The Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property (IEPI for it Spanish acronym) concluded the registration of these names on June 26th of this year.
30S, 30-S and Forbidden to Forget are registered in the class 35, related to advertising, business management or business administration. In order to be used in these areas they must have prior permission.
In December 2011, Alvarado declared that the State patented these phrases “to avoid possible misuse and distortion for political or other opinion, since the September 30 (2010) occurred an event of national and international connotation that led the public to take to the streets to defend democracy and condemn the coup attempt.”
