Guayaquil City Band: Seal of 100% Ecuadorian Quality
In 1999, Roberto Bolaños had the vision of bringing excellent musicians living in the city of Guayaquil and get to join a band with serious seal of quality.
Today Guayaquil City Band, is one of the most iconic musical band of Ecuador. It is well known not only for its outstanding good sound, but also for the excellent staging, which would ensure endless hours of good music.
Roberto Bolaños, leader of Guayaquil City Band, tells us that it has been more than 12 years since he began this project along with his brother Ricardo and singer Israel Maldonado.
Once integrated the band, Roberto, with his colleagues were able to find the appropriate name for the band to be identified instantly be mentioned.
“(…) I choose that name because I thought about creating a band representative of Guayaquil,” says Roberto.
Over the years, City Band was changing its musicians and incorporating new trends and styles. Polishing details and innovating the concept of live bands, making it one of the most important bands for corporate events, private and public.
The selection of people was always calling and passionate musicians who excel in their instruments for his feeling or his/her skills. We were never actually looking for stars, but people who would do the right thing. “
Today, the band has about 10 musicians on stage, adding Roberto as a saxophonist, clarinetist, backup singer and sometimes percussionist.
“The hardest part of running a band as well is to have the patience and diplomacy to the daily treatment with the musicians, because most of them are very difficult to treat (…) it is difficult to hold together a large band with quality musicians”.
However, despite all the efforts that could lead to direct and play in a band like Guayaquil City Band, has its positive side.
“The most rewarding, much more than money, is the come-back of people before our work and our musician’s fellows who recognize Guayaquil City Band as a leader music band and a role model.”
By now, Roberto and the City Band had plan to continue being the first music orchestral and sooner recording original songs.
