Guayaquil prepares to confront El Niño
The plan of prevention and mitigation against the effects of El Niño climate phenomenon is underway in Guayaquil, and involves every department and municipal company responsible for the provision of services and maintenance of the storm drainage system.
One of the first actions was started by the concessionaire Interagua with the cleaning of stormwater channels. The process will be accompanied by a communication campaign on prevention, to raise awareness among people not to throw garbage that clogs the sewers.
In addition, Mayor Jaime Nebot, announced yesterday through a radio broadcasting that the condition of the trees will be reviewed to determine which ones will be pruned and removed in case of falling.
Another measure is the purchase of emergency equipment such as rubber boats, miniplants and energy minicomponents. Mattresses and victuals will also be acquired, six shelters for evacuated families will be reconditioned.
These shelters will be located in five Municipal Comprehensive Care Centers (CAMI) and thePolyfunctional Center of the Zumar executing unit.
