Hearings are asked to the Constitutional Curt for draft amendments
Social and political sectors have sent at least six letters to the Constitutional Court (CC) in order to, as they point out, contribute to the analysis that the Court must follow to decide whether to give way to the proposed amendments to the Constitution Submitted by Alianza PAIS (AP).
The ruling party proposes to change 17 articles and a transient of the Constitution through the Assembly. For this, the CC must approve the procedure.
The Labour Ecuadorian Parliament asks for a “negative opinion” for three amendments to Articles 229 and 326 (depending on which reform servers would rely under the Labour Code), and a transient (in which is asked the same for future revenues of the public sector).
The Unitary Workers Front expressed their concern about the same items.
The Observatory highlights in its publication that several changes to the Constitution should be reformed via referendum because they reform constitutional rights or the state structure.
Furthermore, CREO and ‘Concertación Nacional’ raised two amicus curiae, a figure through which they seek to provide a legal basis.
Andrea Rivera and David Rosero, Members of the Council of Citizen Participation, also expressed their opposition to the amendments, and expect to be received in response to the art. 12 of the Organic Law on Jurisdictional Guarantees.
