Hospital of IESS is declared in emergency

The chairman of the board of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS for its Spanish acronym), Victor Hugo Villacrés, announced the morning of January 21 the declaration of emergency of the hospital Teodoro Maldonado Carbo, of Guayaquil.

According to Villacrés, the intervention is to improve the infrastructure and equipment of the hospital, but did not say how long the emergency would last. The decision was taken after an investigation launched last December due to theadministrative inefficiency of the hospital, misuse of the referral system and drugs and supplies through the inventory system.

Without specifying names, he added that authorities will be removed, and the termination of the agreement with one of the private clinics with which the hospital has the highest number of referrals shall be notified, but he did not indicate which.
