Humala Leads Surveys For The Second Round Of Elections

Posted On 25 Apr 2011
According to an Ipsos Apoyo’s survey released yesterday, the former military officer Ollanta Humala, 48, leftist candidate running for Gana Peru alliance is leading the presidential polls for the runoff in Peru with 42%, while rightist candidate and congress woman Keiko Fujimori, 35, who runs for Fuerza 2011 party, has 36%. 12% of the people would vote blank or null and the remaning 10% of voters still do not know which candidate to vote for on June 5.

This is the first survey made since the general elections held on April 10th. At that time, Humala and Fujimori obtained 31.7% and 23.6% of the votes, respectively, according to official total count.

The winning candidate will assume the presidency for a period of five years on July 28th, Peru’s national day, replacing Alan Garcia, who could not be a candidate this time because immediate reelection is prohibited.
