Human Rights Watch called “alarming” the constitutional amendments
The human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) recommended the Assembly of Ecuador to modify an “alarming” constitutional amendments draft, which according to the organization, allows indefinite re-election and would determine the legal actions of citizens against the state.
“The proposed reforms would facilitate the Government to implement arbitrary restrictions on media and the regularly call of militaries in public security operations, and at the same time that would make it difficult for citizens to submit complaints against judicial abuses”, said José Miguel Vivanco, Director for the Americas at Human Rights Watch.
“This alarming combination would deprive victims of abuse done by Access authorities to an effective resource”, Vivanco added in a HRW release, which asks lawmakers to modify parts of the project.
