Human Rights Watch responded President Correa
Several reactions generated the words said by President Rafael Correa in an interview on Spanish television TVE. Several digital media reproduced last night the statements given by José Miguel Vivanco, Americas director for the Human Rights Watch (HRW) to EFE in Washington.
Regarding the statement by Correa about this NGO (which had rejected the trial against El Universo newspaper) was funded by the Sinaloa cartel, Vivanco said that those are “irrational nonsense” words and show his “intolerance” with criticism. He also noted that Correa “used to attack those who criticize him in Ecuador” so it is a “common practice” of his government.
The official virtual newspaper El Ciudadano said the declarations given by president Correa were “misinterpreted”. “President, Rafael Correa, never said that Human Rights Watch is funded by the Sinaloa cartel.” His question was, “Do you know who funded the Human Rights Watch? Was it financed by the sisters of charity, the Sinaloa cartel, who did it?.”
