IACHR Gives Ecuador Two Months to Answer for Demand
The Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR) accepted the process of the demand against the Ecuadorian State for violating the human rights of the directors of El Universo newspaper and its former editor of opinion Emilio Palacio.
Last March 7, IACHR gave the date to the Ecuadorian state to answer for the claims of the litigants. However the document signed by the Deputy Executive Secretary of IACHR, Elizabeth Abi-Mershed, pointed out that “this current application for information does not constitutes a prejudgment regarding the decision that IACHR would eventually adopt regarding the admissibility of the request.”
The article 13 of the Inter-American Convention of Human Rights protects the right of free speech, that Ecuador is a part of since 1977. (AV)
