IACHR Published Precautionary Measures for El Universo Directors
Yesterday the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR) published precautionary measures for the directors of El Universo and the former editor of opinion Emilio Palacio.
The organization also requested the Ecuadorian government the suspension of the sentence passed by the National Court of Justice. “The facts alleged in the Commission could cause irreparable damage to Free Speech of Emilio Palacio, along with El Universo Directors Carlos, Cesar and Nicolas Perez. For this reason the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights requests the government of his Excellency to immediately suspend the effects of the judgment of February 15, 2012, to ensure the right of free speech.” This was a resume of two pages signed by the executive secretary of IACHR, Santiago Canton.
According to IACHR the precautionary measures would be valid until March 28, were a hearing in Washington, USA, will be made were both parties will defend and reject such measures. The hearing will be from 15:15 to 16:15 in the headquarters of the Commission. (AV)
