After three days of analysis and discussions on the state of press freedom and freedom of expression in the Americas, as well as the violence faced by journalists, the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) meeting in Mexico, expressed their contempt to the government measures taken in some countries.
“Press freedom in the Americas continues hacked by authoritarian and intolerant governments that multiply and reinvent their harassment to journalism,” said the organization.
The organization called for democratic governments about the dangers in the same modus operandi of some nations that do not respect the ideological boundaries in the Western Hemisphere. In this category entered: Ecuador, Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Panama.
In its conclusions, the IAPA criticizes the state and private propaganda created to defame and attack journalists, those responsible for the media, businessmen and politicians who disagree with the official thinking. EFE
