IMF credit for the country does not require an adjustment program
The tool the country has resorted to, before transient eventualities, does not require that the international body imposes an adjustment program to the country in exchange for funding. The IMF proposed this to Ecuador after the earthquake.
“Even the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has offered financing without conditions. I know some analysts who will have euphoria after they know we will receive funding without adjustments, without conditions,” said President Rafael Correa in his last weekly address, after learning of the offer of the organization.
Neither the Government nor the IMF have clarified the amount of the loan, the interest rate, the payment deadline and the of arrival of aid, nothing has been told about the conditions beyond confirming that the request is “under discussion.”
