Independent Physicians will Work Alongside IESS
The Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) wants to strengthen primary health attention and building a new system to book appointments. To do this, the IESS will count with the cooperation of physicians who practice their profession freely.
According to Ramiro Gonzalez, president of the Board of IESS, this will help the prevention of diseases and avoid saturation of the hospitals of first, second and third level in the country, in order to support the demand (2’500 .000 active members and retired members, along with children under 18 who also receive medical attention.)
The Ecuadorian State has 30,000 doctors, 6,000 of whom engage freely in private, which could be working for sure in IESS hospitals. Each physician should qualify, sign a contract and undergo a tariff to charge for their fees. Initiative will run from December.
