Information was manipulated to justify oil exploration in Block 31 in Yasuni

Posted On 13 Oct 2015

Journalist Fernando Villavicencio, when referring to proven oil reserves in Block 31, located in the Yasuni park, said that the reserves information was manipulated to justify and destroy the most important zone of biodiversity in the planet. Villavicencio based his research in the report approved by the Biodiversity Commission of the National Assembly, which in turn, took advantage of another report prepared by Petroamazonas and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Policy.

According to the report of the Commission on Biodiversity, Petroamazonas offered to the country, with oil exploration in Block 31, to deliver 8.290 million in 23 years, with an oil price of $ 70. He says this amounts to 118.4 million barrels of reserves.

A report by Ryder Scott Company Consultants hired by Petroamazonas itself throws other figures. There it is said that proven oil reserves in Block 31 are only 33.1 billion barrels.

The report of the Assembly states that Block 31 would produce, from 2013, 18,000 bpd, but it only produced 2,000 barrels. For 2014 the Petroamazonas manager offered to produce in the same block 25,000 barrels per day, but only 4,500 barrels were extracted.

In the current circumstances, Block 31 will only represent to the country 190 million dollars and not the 8.290 million dollars offered, he said.
