Inhabitants of Ambato denounce attack against their animals
Communards from Ambatillo Alto, in the northwestern of Ambato, reported that in the last two months have died more than 50 animals, attacked by an unknown species. Among the animals affected are mainly donkeys, sheep, pigs and cattle.
According to Andres Fernandez , council of Ambatillo, people who have seen the attack, which have occurred mostly at nights, say that it is an animal that looks like a bat, but bigger; it cut the ears of the animals and although it is not known if it has claws, wounds are large.
“The beast (as they call it) cuts off the ears of our animals and leave them bleeding. Then the animal stops eating, get weaker and die,”said Jose Montachana, council of the commune Angamarquillo.
About 500 community members of Ambatillo Alto, along with technical guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (Magap for its Spanish acronym) of Tungurahua, expect to hunt the strange animal by covering part of the moor and streams that are in place. Technicians, after the first analysis, believe that it may be a wild cat.
