Inspection approves trial proceedings against Gustavo Jalkh

Posted On 15 May 2018

Ecuadornews:

The Oversight Commission of the National Assembly, chaired by its president María José Carrión, with 7 affirmative votes, approved the request for impeachment against the president of the Council of Judicature Gustavo Jalkh and eight members of the body.

The request for impeachment against Jalkh “met all the requirements for qualification”, according to the legislature, and also has the support of 56 members of the National Assembly, more than a quarter of the legislators.

After its approval, the agency ordered that the officials and legislators requesting the trial be notified so that they can present their evidence of charge and defense within the 15-day period.

The requesting assembly members, Esteban Bernal (CREO) and Raúl Tello (BIN) presented more than 40 pieces of evidence, which includes the report of the State Comptroller General’s Office, dated April 6, 2018, “by which it establishes that the Judicial Council would have determined appointments to fiscal agents with lower score, on which they obtained better results “.

Also, another evidence is “the urgent act presented by the State Attorney General’s Office against the President of the Judicial Council for alleged influence peddling, as well as the report and file presented by the Anticorruption Commission before the Participation Council regarding the bad origin of the appointments of provincial prosecutors, among which is that of the deputy prosecutor Thania Moreno “.
