Israel leaves 17,000 homes destroyed in Gaza
The Israeli offensive called Operation “Protective Edge”, which yesterday was suspended indefinitely following an agreement between Hamas and Israel, left some 17,200 houses destroyed, so the reconstruction of housing became the main emergency in Gaza, according to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations in the Palestinian Territories (OCHA).
Among other things, OCHA said that attacks on private houses left some 2000 people homeless, which adds to the number of refugees: 475,000, of which 290,000 remain in schools of the United Nations Relief and Works (UNRWA).
OCHA further specified that 216 schools were hit by projectiles, so it is impossible to teach in them; in the medical field, they reported 58 hospitals and health centers damaged or sunk, which urgently needs recovery.
On the human side, the situation reaches a wretched figure of 2,138 deaths in attacks by Israel, of whom 484 were minors. They will also have to wait for the recovery of about 10,300 Palestinians wounded, and among them, a thousand children with permanent disabilities.
