It is normal that 80% and 90% of companies are family businesses
In an interview with El Universo, Juan Corona, director of the Institute of the Family Business in Spain, talks about the importance of family businesses in the economic development of a country and how to achieve the optimization in Latin America with a due corporate government.
Corona does not believe that family businesses should disappear in a country because it’s natural that between 80% and 90% of these are family. “I would say we must get them to be bigger, because they create more jobs, wealth and prosperity.”
He mentions that there are similarities and differences between Spain and Ecuador, “the similarities are that both the Ecuadorian economy like the Spanish, German, English and others basically rely on family businesses, some more than others (…) and the difference is that there is more awareness of family business in Europe than in Latin America, where there is still no awareness that the family business requires special treatment.”
