John Lennon is one of the biggest stars the world has ever had. His tenure in music and his constant position in favor of world peace were the main features of this figure that would be 72 years old today.
John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, UK. His childhood was marked by the separation of his parents. That’s when his uncles Mimi and George Smith decided to give him a place in their home.
From a young age he demonstrated his musical skills. He was a fan of Elvis Presley and was characterized as a young rebel, who always stressed the interpretative strength of songs.
In 1956 he joined The Quarrymen, a group in which he proved he would be one of the greats.
John Lennon was eighteen when he wrote his first song, titled “Hello, Little Girl” and by 1960 he was part of the lineup of the popular band The Beatles.
John Lennon composed several songs in The Beatles, some co-authored with Paul McCartney. One of the most recognized is ‘Help’.
In September 1969, John Lennon left The Beatles for differences among members. By this time he was preparing a solo career.
Still with the feel of his complicated childhood years, Lennon made his way and composed songs like ‘Mother’, which includes his solo album titled ‘John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band’.
His inseparable partner, Yoko Ono, said to have been the subject of differences within The Beatles. Yoko was undoubtedly one of the great loves of this English idol.
Before committing to Yoko Ono, Lennon married Cynthia Powell and had a son named Julian, who appears in this picture next to his father and Yoko.
Lennon’s stance towards world peace and against war, are one of the distinguishing features of this idol. To demonstrate it, Lennon and Yoko got into bed for a while, in which they talked against the atrocities during the Vietnam War. Thus the famous’ Bed-In for Peace “caught the eye of journalists worldwide.
On December 8, 1980 John Lennon was murdered by Mark David Chapman outside the Dakota building, where Lennon lived. Here he is remembered each year.
John Lennon’s body was cremated at the Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York and his ashes scattered in Central Park. This image shows the hearse that was carrying his remains.
