The plane that took Vice President Jorge Glas from Guayaquil landed at the Mariscal Sucre airport in Tababela, at 11:00 pm on Monday, October 2, 2017. In the middle of the secrecy, two vehicles with militants from Alianza País (AP) awaited outside the building of the National Customs Office (Senae), located approximately 70 meters from the protocol hall of the air terminal.
Legislator Marcela Aguiñaga, an AP’s leader, was in one of the vehicles. Officials of the National Police prevented the passage of the press until that point. The agents set up a human barrier to keep journalists away.
Jorge Glas and his uncle Ricardo Rivera have a pretrial detention order from 17:21 on Monday. Miguel Jurado, a judge of the National Court of Justice, accepted the request for precautionary measures filed in the morning by Attorney General Carlos Baca Mancheno based on new evidence found in the investigation for alleged unlawful association in the Odebrecht case.
