President Lenín Moreno decreed a state of emergency in Ecuador. Through the national network, on the night of Monday, March 16, 2020, the president announced that it will take effect from 9:00 p.m. on March 17 and will last until 5:00 a.m. the following day, as a measure to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

“Neighborhood stores, markets and supermarkets will remain open. Likewise, banks, financial services, health centers and pharmacies will continue to operate normally. Hospitals and clinics will operate continuously. All digital home delivery platforms ”, explained Moreno.
The governor also noted that from Tuesday at midnight – and for 14 days – interprovincial transport , domestic flights and the circulation of private vehicles have been suspended .
“Except for those who perform the services of authorized companies and establishments,” Moreno said the same day that the positive cases of the new coronavirus reached a total of 58, according to the National Service for Risk and Emergency Management.
Lenín Moreno reported that for people who are going to buy food or medicine, circulation is restricted as follows: on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, vehicles with plates that end in even number and 0 will not circulate; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for vehicles whose plates end in an odd number. These measures are also implemented from midnight on Tuesday.
The announcement comes after the National Government declared a health emergency in Ecuador on March 11. Since that date, the authorities have been taking measures that restrict mobility and seek to combat the spread of the pandemic .
