Lenín Moreno: “We are one of the safest countries in the region”

President Lenin Moreno said that the police currently solves 80% of crimes and that Ecuador is one of the safest countries in America. Moreno highlighted the statistics on homicides and said these were reduced from 19 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2006 to 5.7 in 2016.
The president made these statements during the ceremony of promotions of the police leadership, which was held yesterday at the Superior General Police School Alberto Enríquez Gallo.
During the act, Nelson Humberto Villegas was promoted to General Inspector of the Generals District, and Carlos Alulema, Hernán Carrillo, Freddy Ramos, Carlos Cabrera and Tannya Varela (the first woman in this position) were promoted to General Inspector of the Colonels District.
The president told the police that the government is open to dialogue, thanked the institution for its work, offered to improve its conditions, and added that with the help of the police agents, it would be possible to eradicate micro-traffic in schools to protect the integrity of the youth. (I).
