The Front for the Defense of the Amazon (FDA), an organization that would be the beneficiary of environmental verdict against Chevron, announced yesterday that it has cut relations with attorney Pablo Fajardo “after he raised illegally, and without the FDA approval, the embargo order against the company,” which allowed the government to pay $ 112 million to the oil company days ago.

Fajardo and those who participated in the lifting of the embargo could be liable for monetary damages, said Carlos Guaman, president of the Front.

He assured that Patricio Salazar was appointed to form a new legal team that will try to correct the “mistake” and will conduct an investigation of the circumstances of the fact.

On Tuesday, President Rafael Correa acknowledged that the Government requested to lift the embargo in order to prevent that the transnational company brings the country to “bankrupt.”

“We had to talk to the Amazon front, to ask them to desist from the embargo, since _ these gentlemen wanted to grind down Ecuador.” He also said he was grateful to them for having done so.

Correa also commented that the oil company would have “boycotted” the issuance of $ 1,000 million in bonds that would serve to finance the State budget.
