Through a statement, yesterday published in various media in Ecuador, a group of 94 intellectuals called on the government of this country to “adopt a position that favors a democratic, pluralist and civil solution to the Venezuelan crisis, and of unrestricted respect to the results of the parliamentary elections held in December.”
The signatories said that “what happens in Venezuela affects us,” for which they demanded the Nicolas Maduro regime to respect the will of citizens.
“The actions undertaken by the government of Maduro and the outgoing President of the Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, after having known the election results, constitute a serious attack on Venezuelan democracy and the future of its people,” it was observed.
Eduardo Zambrano, Assemblyman of Alianza PAIS and coordinator of the Ecuador-Venezuela inter-parliamentary group, said that there should be no “meddling” in the affairs of that country.
He declined to comment on the above mentioned newsletter, but stressed that democracy emerged “reinforced” in Caracas.
