Lourdes Tiban: ‘I will not vote for this government.’
Posted On 22 Feb 2017
Lourdes Tiban, of the Pachakutik party, said in the radio City program that the indigenous bases would not vote for the government´s candidate Lenin Moreno in the second round. She also said that the figures showed that she was a better candidate than Paco Moncayo within the National Agreement for Change coalition. Until yesterday she obtained 1’046,021 votes like an aspirant to the Andean Parliament, and Moncayo got 610,450 votes for the Presidency.
Were the candidates of the National Agreement for Change correctly chosen?
It fills me with emotion to know that I am overcoming Paco Moncayo in the voting. We were always right in Pachakutik, unfortunately, when the other two parties (Unidad Popular and Izquierda Democratica) said that they would support Paco and there was the possibility that I was left alone, I withdrew my candidacy … I was told I had the 2% of vote intention. But now with the 13% of the ballot (Andean Parliament vote), I know I could have done a better role than any of these five candidates, and I would be behind Cynthia Viteri.
How is the coalition organization for the second round? The government questions that the indigenous bases support a banker.
After a decade of this government that has sent us to jail has criminalized us, has demolished houses in the Amazon, has conducted mining works without a prior consultation, the government should not be cheeky and asks us for the support. Even if I remain alone in Pachakutik, I will not vote for this government, because after ten years of suffering, of being hit, if I vote for them it would be mean: even if he beats e, he is my husband.
Moncayo said he would not vote for either.
This is the decision of a figure who may no longer return to politics; I think he reached a point, and I do not believe he will even take part in a parish council. We will take a stand and announce the proposals of the indigenous sector for the second round.
