Marches for and against the government took place in Quito
Around four thousand representatives of workers, indigenous people, students and other sectors participated in the protest march against the economic, social and labor policies of the National Government.
The demonstration, called by the Single National Collective of Social Organizations, Indigenous Peoples and Workers, began at 16:30 outside the Social Security building. The marchers went to the Plaza de Santo Domingo, in the Historic Center.
Other groups joined such as the Democracy Movement Si, of Marcelo Larrea.
The president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) Jorge Herrera said that “the government has no political capacity to resolve the crisis.”
The protesters carried banners reading “Out Correa out,” “Correa, enough of lashings” and “we do not want to be like Venezuela,” among others.
