Military Armed Forces Will Watch Over the Streets
Starting today the three branches of the Ecuadorian Armed Forces will patrol the streets of the country, specifically in Guayaquil, were anti-crime controls will be taken into action.
The announcement was made through the Minister of Security, Miguel Carvajal, Minister of Justice, Jose Serrano, and the Minister of Interior, Gustavo Jalhk.
The Penal Judge 22 of Guarantees from Pichincha allowed this measures so that the armed forces join the fight against crime.
Minister Carvajal said that this decision was made quickly by a disposition of the National Assembly. The penal code is being reformed so that the sanctions for criminals apprehended by the police suffer serious sentences.
The collaboration of the Mayor of Guayaquil, Jaime Nebot and the prefect, Jimmy Jairala is expected. The Minister hopes that the mayors of other provinces join the fight, Carvajal believes that now that the army is involved, the organized crime of the country would finally be disbanded.
