Military Presence Brings Calm to Egypt
Today is the first day without Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, now it is led by the supreme council of the Armed Forces, which is headed by Defense Minister Mohammed Hussein Tantawi.
In a statement released yesterday, the military promised “a peaceful transition of power that leads to a free democratic society.” The Supreme Military Council also stressed “the need for a return to normal life” and warned against any attack on the country’s security. Furthermore, this military body said it will announce in upcoming statements it next action steps that will be taken.
Now what is guaranteed is that they will comply with “all the regional and international agreements and treaties” and also called to the current Executive and the country´s governors to “carryout their duties until the formation of a new government.”
The Army has received a country where the economy is affected after 18 days of protests, where the stock market is closed and foreign investors are alert.
